Online Auctions are nothing new as many e-commerce sites are hosting them now. The main problem with the current online auctions is that the merchandise is normally in upper Canada or the USA. As a buyer you have to rely on pictures and descriptions of the items and then pay the large costs of shipping and customs fees to get the items delivered here in the Maritimes which is costly!!
WHAT IS AN ONLINE AUCTION & HOW DOES IT WORK?
** Online auctions are where registration and bidding is done through our secure website. (CLICK HERE FOR "ONLINE AUCTION VIDEO TUTORIAL INSTRUCTIONS"). It is free to register to bid online and many of our online auctions do "not" require your credit card information in order to bid. Some onsite auctions may require a valid credit card in order to bid.
** All our auctions are found by clicking on the "*Current & Upcoming Auctions" button on our website homepage. **We offer a viewing day for our online auctions so you can see the merchandise in person and do not have to rely solely on a photograph and description of the items. The location for the viewing and pick-up, the conditions of sale, the times for pick-up, the payment types accepted and other information will be specified on each of the online auctions in the auction detail section.
** The bidding duration for our online auctions is normally 7 days (Thursday to Thursday) however it may vary from time to time. This duration is always mentioned in the terms and conditions related to each of the online auctions. The closing time is the moment when the highest bidder will become the winner of the closed lot.
** Most of the items ("lots") start at a $4 bid. The online bidding follow predetermined increments. This means that it will not be possible to place a bid of an amount not corresponding to the next available increment. For example, if the predetermined increment is $1 between the amount of $2 to $10, you can not place a bid of $3.01 over the bidder who bid $3, the program will suggest you bid $4. The bidding increments list is available for each of the online auctions in the auction details section.
** You can bid on as many items as many times as you want increasing the increment each time and there is a "watch list".
** If you don't want to be tied to your computer at the end of the auction, or don't have access to your computer as the bidding is closing, you can easily enter your maximum bid when placing your bids. Your "Max Bid" which is the maximum amount you are comfortable paying for the item.
** The max bid is not entered as your bid, it simply allows our secure software to bid on your behalf to the next increment up if someone out bids you until you get to your maximum amount. This is similar to how the eBay auction site works.
** Keep this in mind if you are bidding on an item and you enter a $4 bid and all of the sudden it jumps to $5 automatically. You enter $5 and it jumps to $6 automatically. This means that someone has entered a max bid higher than the amount you bid and the bids keep jumping until that maximum amount is reached if you keep bidding.
** The system will e-mail you to notify you if you have been outbid by another bidder for each item you have bid on so you can go back in and change your bid amount if you choose to do so.
** The majority of the auctions will have a "soft close". What this means is, if there is a bid in the final minute of the auction, that item ("lot") will stay open for bidding for an extra 3 minutes to allow a rebid. Be alert! If several bidders compete with each other at the same time at closing, the lot can be won several minutes later than the scheduled closing time (until bidding stops). This way of completing online auctions is more like what a traditional auctioneer will do at a live auction since he will take all the bids until he reaches the highest bidder. This is also effect to prevent computerized software from "sniping your bid". These systems wait until the last seconds to over bid you making it an unfair advantage for people using this software. The soft close prevents this from happening. Lots close 7 seconds apart starting at 8pm AST. At this rate it takes about 90 minutes for the entire auction to close, meanwhile, bidding remains active on the open lots past 8pm.
** At the end of the auction you will receive an e-mail with an unpaid invoice showing the items you won. Print that and bring a copy of it when you pick up your items.
** Payment is made at the time of pick-up (onsite) even if you registered using a credit card. When you arrived to pick up your items, you can pay for your items with Cash, Debit, Visa, MasterCard or Pre-paid Credit Card at that time.
** Once the auction closes and you are the successful bidder, you own the items and there are NO RETURNS OR REFUNDS on the merchandise you bought. As per the terms of the bidder terms and agreement all items are sold "AS IS, WHERE IS" with no warranties or guarantees of any kind unless advertised as such in the item description.
**INVOICES MUST BE PAID IN FULL WITHIN 6 DAYS OF THE AUCTION CLOSING - FAILURE TO PICK UP AND PAY FOR YOUR ITEMS ON THE DESCRIBED DATE AND TIME WILL RESULT IN YOUR BIDDING PRIVILEDGES BEING SUSPENDED**
